Our adult karate program is for those over 15 years of age who would like to study American Kenpo Karate in a friendly, relaxed environment. Most of our adult students work all day and take care of their families; this is their hour to enjoy. No yelling or children arguing, no boss looking over your shoulder--just a group of nice people enjoying an hour away from the rest of the world.
Nothing else exists during your hour except the enjoyment of learning your karate and getting into shape. It does not matter whether you're athletic or not, or if you have ever taken a martial arts class before, because you will work with people of your own ability.
The class starts with an exercise and stretching period, which is an important aspect of your training. We look for you to do the best that you can. If you are unable to perform certain exercises due to injury, or you've never exercised before, we modify the exercise to your ability and what you are capable of doing. Please relax and enjoy; it takes time to get out of shape, so of course it will take some time to get back into shape.
Now comes the fun part! When the exercise part of the class is over, we divide the students into small groups according to rank. All beginners will go with their instructor and begin their self-defense training. Whether you are five or fifty, we all begin with the same self-defense material, as everyone must take the first step on their journey into the martial arts. This is not a fifty-yard dash, this is a marathon. Every step you take puts you one step closer to your goal. With each class, you will gain a little more confidence, a little more strength, and the knowledge of how to better protect yourself and your family.
After only a few classes, you will begin to believe in your abilities. You will realize that you can succeed, with practice and patience along with dedication and commitment. We are blessed at the Dragon's Den to have instructors and advanced students that really want you to succeed, so there will always be someone to answer your questions and help you on your journey.
Many people find it intimidating to walk into a karate school, to look around and ask questions. When you walk into the Den, you will be greeted with a smile and a handshake. Please relax, you are among friends.
Adult classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7 to 8 pm, and Fridays from 6 pm to 7 pm.
